This medicine is an antiviral combination used with other medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection.
Before Using This Medicine: WARNING: THIS MEDICINE HAS CAUSED HAS CAUSED SEVERE, EVEN FATAL, LIVER PROBLEMS AND BLOOD DISORDERS, including a buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), neutropenia, and anemia, especially in patients with advanced HIV infection. IF YOU ALSO HAVE HEPATITIS B INFECTION, WORSENING OF YOUR CONDITION COULD OCCUR if you stop taking this medicine without your doctor knowing. DO NOT STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE without your doctor's approval. Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking other forms of lamivudine or zidovudine, zalcitabine, stavudine, ribavirin, or doxorubicin. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking ganciclovir, interferon-alpha, probenecid, or methadone. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including pancreatitis, kidney problems, hepatitis B infection or other liver problems, abnormal blood counts, muscle problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of abnormal liver function tests, severe liver problems, severe kidney problems, or lactic acidosis. Use of this medicine in children under age 12 is not recommended. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of giving this medicine to your child. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
